Long Island continues to be a hotbed for technological innovation. Grumman engineers designed and built the lunar module in the 1960s and many other innovations in flight and the defense industry were born and nurtured here. Today, well know international institutions like Brookhaven National Lab and Cold Spring Harbor Lab are continuing their groundbreaking scientific and health research. Large pharmaceutical companies, OSI and Forest Labs, have a storng presence on Long Island as they develop new medications to combat myriad diseases. There are several technology based incubators on Long Island that are helping small businesses to grow and prosper.
